LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
a) elaborate notes using simple past tense
b) write in 6 paragraphs
c) write at least 2 sentences for each paragraph
LEARNING EMPHASIS
Language for writing simple messages
INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES
a) The teacher distributes worksheets containing the exercise for the
lesson. The exercise is about a guided writing essay whereby the students are to write a recount based on 6 pictures.
b) She explains what the instruction means and guides the students to comprehend the situation in the question by looking at the meaning of notes given underneath each picture.
c) Then, she gives a layout for the essay so that the students will know how to organize the points for the essay.
d) Next, the teacher moves on to getting the students to try to elaborate points for each picture. She does this by explaining the meaning of the words in the Malay language and how the sentence will look like in the Malay language.
e) This process is repeated for each picture until the whole essay is completed in class.
f) Before the class ends, the teacher reminds the students to bring their literature exercise books for a revision on the literature component.
REFLECTION
The essay is completed. This is the second exercise on how to write a guided writing essay. However, the teacher is unsure whether the students have understood how to construct the sentences. They only did quite well in guessing suitable words to begin each sentence. The good thing is they seem to remember that they have to construct 2 sentences for each paragraph. So, when they saw that some paragraphs have 3 sentences, they immediately inquired. This is because each paragraph has more than 2 points and requires the students to construct short meaningful sentences.

Literature – The novel: Around The World In 80 Days
TOPIC
Describe about an event that is interesting
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
a) write a six-paragraph essay on the given topic
b) use present tense in sentence construction
c) identify 3 main ideas that explains why a chosen event is interesting
d) elaborate a main idea by writing 4 sentences for each paragraph where it contains a topic sentence, an elaboration, an example and a mini conclusion
LEARNING EMPHASIS
Language for informational use
INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES
a) The teacher writes down the question for revision on the novel on the board. The students are asked to copy down this question.
b) Next, she guides the students to answer the question by using the 7 step to writing a better essay in class. Firstly, the students listen to the teacher as she reads the question. Next, she gets them to highlight key words in the question and explains what it requires.
c) After that, the students identify the tense to be used which is present tense. Next, the teacher reminds them of the format for the essay where it should be written in 5 paragraphs with an introduction, 3 paragraphs for the main ideas and a conclusion.
d) Then, the teacher guides the students to do a mind map where they are asked to identify 3 events that are interesting. When doing this, the teacher further guides them in choosing the best event based on the strength of the main ideas that they can brainstorm for each event.
e) After this, the teacher solicits responses from the students on
elaborations as well as examples for each of the three main ideas.
f) Next, the teacher guides them again on how to construct topic
sentences, elaborations, examples and mini conclusion for each paragraph that contains the main ideas. This is done by asking the students to give responses spontaneously and their answers are written on the board. If they have made any errors, the teacher corrects it first before including it in the sample essay.
g) Once this essay is done, the teacher reminds the students of some of the vital key words that must be used in the essay and to revise all of the sample essays that have been given in the class.
REFLECTION
The sample essay for this question is completed. The students have copied the third sample essay for literature. However, when asked to construct sentences, they were prone to make errors especially in the usage of tenses and sentence structures. Their biggest weakness is that they were unable to think spontaneously when it comes to writing their elaborations as they still need more practice in using the Wh-Qestions in order to help them construct their elaborations.

REFLECTION
This sample essay couldn’t be completed in class. The fact that the teacher used a lot of time to make sure that the students understand how to construct their topic sentences and elaborations has delayed much time that is needed in getting the students to look for relevant examples and learn how to write them. Hence, 3E’s main weakness is that they were unable to construct the topic sentence for the first main idea. The teacher had to give them plenty of key words so that they could build their own sentence. However, only 2 out of 35 students understood what the teacher wanted them to do as most of the students were afraid to try when called by the teacher.
