LEARNING OBJECTIVES | At the end of the lesson, students should be able to: a) give 3 reasons for a character that one likes b) write sentences using simple present tense c) write an essay in 5 paragraphs |

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES | a) The teacher begins the lesson by asking the students to name one character that they like. The students are expected to name Lisa as their favourite character. b) She asks them to give her three reasons why they like a certain character. The teacher helps to identify the 3 reasons by getting the students to identify 3 good qualities of the chosen character. c) Then, the teacher guides them step by step on writing an essay based on the drama. She gives them the layout of the paragraph and stresses on the usage of simple present tense. d) The teacher teaches the students how to write the introduction and the content paragraphs. She illustrates on the board how to write the topic sentence, the elaboration, the example and the mini conclusion for the content paragraph. e) The teacher also shows how to conclude the essay. A sample essay is given and the students are asked to copy down this into their exercise books. f) Before the class ends, the teacher asks the students to repeat the three qualities of a character that they have learned to write about in the essay. |
REFLECTION | The students have chosen Lisa as their favourite character. They could give 2 reasons which are being responsible and humble. However, they were guided every step of the way on how to compose an essay on the drama. They were also given another essay where they were asked to choose a character that they don’t like. The teacher used the same technique and they could give the first word to be used for the first, second and the third sentences. They will need more exercises on writing this kind of essay. |

AKTIVITI | a) Guru meminta pelajar untuk memberikan 3 faktor yang merupakan ciri iklim Khatulistiwa. Pelajar akan memberikan cuaca, hujan dan suhu sebagai jawapan. b) Kemudian guru menjelaskan bahawa terdapat 4 lagi faktor yang mempengaruhi cuaca dan iklim di Malaysia. c) Guru menerangkan faktor-faktor ini berpandukan penerangan dalam buku teks. Guru juga melukis peta Malaysia untuk membantu pelajar lebih memahami. d) Pada akhir penerangan ini, guru memberikan nota untuk disalin oleh pelajar. e) Kemudian, guru memberikan masa selama 10 minit untuk membaca nota sekali lagi sebelum guru memberikan soalan-soalan PBS untuk dijawab. f) Pada akhir masa, guru mengedarkan soalan PBS dan memberikan masa selama 20 minit untuk mereka menjawab secara individu. g) Guru mengutip kertas jawapan pelajar setelah mereka tamat menjawab. |
REFLEKSI | Guru dapat menamatkan pengajaran mengenai faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi cuaca dan iklim di Malaysia. Walau bagaimanapun, guru tidak dapat mentaksir band 3 (B3D3E1) pada hari ini kerana terpaksa mentaksir pelajar-pelajar yang belum menguasai soalan-soalan PBS pada minggu lepas. Band 3 ini akan diuji pada hari Khamis. |

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES | a) The teacher recaps previous lessons on Chapter 13 before going on to Chapter 14. She narrates the chapter where Mr. Fogg and his party cross the Pacific Ocean and then ride on a train that nearly fell from a crashing old bridge. b) Then, the teacher continues reading Chapter 14 in the class. She pauses at certain parts that are vital to understanding 3 questions that she will ask at the end of the reading. She also explains some terms and difficult words to the students. c) At the end of the reading, the teacher asks the students to identify 1 decision that Phileas takes in order to save passengers who are kidnapped by the bandits, to identify 2 effects of Phileas’ decision to save the kidnapped passengers and to identify 1 solution when the group misses the train to New York. d) Before the class ends, the teacher gives the students some notes on Chapters 13 and 14. The students copy these into their note books. |
REFLECTION | The notes for Chapter 14 was copied by the students. They were able to answer all of the three questions that the teacher has asked. |

REFLECTION | The teacher did not manage to complete Chapter 14. This is because the students have not done Chapter 13. Hence, the teacher had to read two chapters and did not get to give the notes for these two chapters. The notes will be given next week when the teacher has finished the novel with them. The students however, could give the answers for all of the three questions. |

The students are expected to say that they learned about how Phileas and his friends are attacked on a train to New York and Phileas’ successful effort to rescue the kidnapped passengers before riding on a sledge to Omaha. b) The teacher then continues reading Chapter 15. She explains some difficult words and pauses at certain parts to check the students’ understanding. c) Once the reading of the chapter is completed, the teacher gives them some notes to be copied. d) Before the class ends, the teacher asks the students to identify 1 reason why Detective Fix is worried everytime Phileas spends the money in the carpetbag, to identify 1 reason why the ship’s crew decide to help Phileas, to identify 1 solution that Phileas takes when the ship runs out of coal and to state an event that occurs when the group arrives in Liverpool. |
REFLECTION | The teacher completed Chapter 15 with the students and also gave the notes to them. But the students could only answer 2 questions of the 3 questions that the teacher asked. They did not remember why the ship crew decide to help Phileas go to Liverpool. |

The students are expected to say that they learned about how Phileas and his friends board the Henrietta to Liverpool where coal runs out and Phileas has to burn some parts of the ship before getting arrested by Detective Fix in Liverpool. b) The teacher continues to read Chapter 16. She pauses at certain parts of the chapter in order to check students’ understanding of certain events and difficult words. c) At the end of the reading, she asks the students to identify how Phileas feels when he arrives at Saville Row, to identify what Aouda says to Phileas when Phileas meets her after dinner and to identify Phileas’ mistakes when he arrives home. d) Before the class ends, the teacher gives some notes to be copied by the students. |
REFLECTION | The teacher completed Chapters 16 and 17. The notes were also given. The students could answer all of the 3 questions that the teacher asked. The novel is finally completed. |

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES | a) The teacher recaps previously learned simple present tense before asking the students to write simple sentences. She asks them to fill in some blanks. They are expected to match singular verbs with singular nouns and plural verbs with plural nouns. b) When the students have finished answering these questions on the board, she checks their answers. c) Then, she explains that they will revise on writing simple sentences with 5 words using simple present tense. The teacher writes short notes on the board and asks the students to choose suitable verbs for each of the question. The verbs are given on the board. They are given 10 minutes to do this on their own. d) At the end of the time, the teacher calls some students to write their answers on the board. She checks their work and corrects their errors. e) Before the lesson ends, she reminds them to bring their Literature exercise books and booklet. |
REFLECTION | The teacher decided to check the students’s understanding of the drama by giving them a quiz. This grammar lesson will be postponed until Thursday next week. The literature quiz helped the teacher to discover that the students are very weak in sequencing events in the drama. |

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES | a) The teacher begins the lesson by getting the students ready at their own places. She explains the topic for the PBS and the instructions in the question paper. b) She distributes the question paper to each student and gives them 15 minutes to do each set of questions. As both sets use the same passage, the teacher reads out the text in the class and explains what it means. She also explains what each question means so that the students can proceed answering on their own. c) At the end of the time, the teacher collects their answer scripts. d) Before the lesson ends, the teacher reminds them that they will sit for another PBS question on Monday. |
REFLECTION | The assessment was completed. Four students did not turn up. The students did poorly especially on B3DL2E2 as they did not really understand the meaning of sentences in the text although the teacher has explained prior to the test. As many as 4 students have not passed B3DL2E1 while all of them passed B3DL2E2. |
